By Neetish Basnet – Data reporter, Puget Sound Business Journal
Companies opened their hearts and wallets last year to support Washington-based charities working to address the toughest societal issues. The Puget Sound Business Journal’s annual list recognizes 80 such companies for those contributions.
The state’s top corporate philanthropists collectively gave $256.12 million in cash contributions to Washington nonprofits in 2023. They gifted an additional $126.22 million in other in-kind contributions and sponsorships.
The Corporate Philanthropists Lists are divided into three categories, which are based on revenue. The large and midsize categories have 30 companies each and the small category has 20 companies.
The companies are listed in alphabetical order below.
The large category includes local titans such as Amazon, Microsoft, Starbucks and Costco, along with out-of-state corporations like JPMorgan Chase, Boeing and Albertsons Cos. The midsize category includes several general contractors like Mortenson, MacPherson and JTM Construction. The small corporate philanthropists list has seven new companies that were not listed in prior years, as a few companies outgrew into the category.
The full ranking and Washington state cash giving for each listmaker will be revealed at our Corporate Citizenship event on May 9 at the Seattle Convention Center’s Summit wing. The Business Journal will also honor nine companies with the Corporate Citizenship Award. Click here for more information about the event.
The Lists are ranked by 2023 cash giving. The donations must have been made without any commercial incentives, benefits or advantages to the donor companies. The cash contribution does not include sponsorships, table purchases or any other contribution made in return for access to the commercial potential associated with an organization or event.
